I completed the Liberal Studies Program with an Option in Spanish. What are my next steps? If you earned a B or better in your courses, email the Bilingual Coordinator your transcripts. She will generate a letter confirming that you met the language and culture competencies. You will upload the letter to Fluid Review and change your program objective to "bilingual". As you continue your program, be sure to enroll in the bilingual sections of TED 403 and TED 404. Request a bilingual or dual placement for your Practicum and student teaching. If you did not meet the minimum of a "B" grade, you have the option to retake the course and earn a "B" or better or take the corresponding CSET: LOTE exam.

I majored in Spanish at another university. How can I find out if my courses can be substituted for the required Spanish courses? At the Teacher Education (TED) office, request a petition for course substitution. Complete the form and include a chart that includes side by side the required CSUDH Spanish courses and the courses completed as an undergraduate. Include the title of the courses and the course description. In addition, write a rationale as to why the content learned is similar. A grade of B or better is required for a course substitution to be considered. Submit the petition to the Chair of Modern Languages, Dr. Ivonne Heinze-Balcazar, at La Corte Hall; she will review the petition and notify the Bilingual Coordinator.
