Liberal Studies: Spanish Option

The Liberal Studies Major at CSUDH is designed to provide a broad, liberal arts education while providing a strong foundation for students interested in elementary education, special education, or a related field. Students gain the skills to become 21st century educators dedicated to teaching for change and social justice.

All Liberal Studies students select an area of concentration, called an Option, in which they take 9 to 12 credit hours of classes in a subject area of interest. Students who select the Spanish Option*  will fulfill the language and culture competence component of the Bilingual Authorization. Students will declare their Option once they take LBS 203 Introduction to Teaching: Becoming a Transformative Educator, the first class in the major.

The Spanish Option includes the following Spanish courses:

  • SPA 280 Grammar for Spanish Composition

  • SPA 311 Linguistics

  • SPA 341 Advanced Conversation

  • SPA 351 Contemporary Hispanic Culture: Spanish Speaking

*Students must pass all Spanish Option courses with a B or better in order to fulfill the language  and culture competence component of the Bilingual Authorization.
