Claudia D. Hernandez, credential graduate 2007, proudly read from her moving memoir this past Tuesday at Skylight Bookstore. Her debut Knitting the Fog provides a raw and eloquent narrative in prose and poetry of the hardships within and across borders. Claudia draws from her young years when her mother left her and her sister in Guatemala and then her journey and life in Los Angeles with the challenges and hardships as an immigrant. Her writing highlights her bilingual self and her resiliency towards healing. When asked, when she knew she was a writer, she responded, “I didn’t write as a little girl. It happened with an assignment in Dr. Sarmiento’s class when we were asked to write about our family history.”
